Its 23rd of September 2012, 50th year of “Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava”. what would be the gift for a 50th year celebration, its non other than Ilaiyaraaja performing live. Its yet another treat for the music lovers. wow!! amazing crowd here at Bangalore and brilliant sound, thanks to the organizers of Ganesh Utsava.
People had come along with their family and friends to enjoy Raaja’s magical music show. Me along with my uncles, brother & a friend were there at “National College grounds”, Basavangudi, Bangalore at 6:30PM to see the Music Magic show. The actual show started when the time was around 7:30PM, with a musical welcome for Raaja sir followed by Raaja sir singing “Amma endhu..”(Maestro Ilaiyaraaja’s Kannada Devotional song on Moogambika – Amma endhu (1981)) and then sang the favorite song of all Raaja sir fans, “Janani Janani”.
“You have not come here to see me; I have come here to see you. I have lost some words in between Janani song, so please keep silence so that you all enjoy the music clearly. I have come here to get blessings from Lord Ganesha & to see you all.” He said this when everyone started to shout & whistle and also some of them started to say “Raaja ki Jai…” Raaja sir said “elladhiku jai…” (Saying “Jai” for everything)
They introduced Vijay Prakash to sing “Om Shivoham” from Naan Kadavul.. Wow superb orchestra and awesome sound, no one expected this song; it was a shower of blessing from Music God on behalf of Lord Ganesh. Next was one of my favourite songs “Aakasha dhindha jaari” from Janma Janmada Anubandha which was released in the year 1980, a Shankar Nag movie. Shankar Nag was a great fan of Raaja sir, He used to tell in most of the interviews as “Raaja sir nanna usiru, nanna devaru” (Raaja sir is my life, my god). After this beautiful song there was another beautiful creation of Raaja sir, “Idhayam oru kovil”.. Hmmm, especially when he sings “neeyum naanum onrudhaan engae pirivadhu..”, the crowd goes crazy, goose bumps!
